Passenger Stock: 4-wheel Vale of Rheidol closed carriages

The CR&DJR has five of the Perfect World Vale of Rheidol 4-wheelers - these are based on a shortened version of the original VoR bogie coaches. They are beautiful kits and make a really first class model, although each takes around 15 hours of work to complete, including painting. Three of these were brought as kits direct from Perfect World in 2003, the other two were acquired complete and painted from the owner of Tabitha.

Construction of rhe first of the three kits was started in March 2004. It is shown below with the main bodywork assembled but still needing brass fittings, vacuum brakes, glazing, final paint and especially the steps. The interior has been varnished and a first coat of red paint has been applied.

Below we see Pythagoras about to head out with the first passenger train on the CR&DJR from the still incomplete carriage shed.

This view, taken in April 2004 shows the carriage in the newly ballasted and platformed station. The wood has been stained, the running boards are fitted; all that remains to complete the carriage are the vacuum pipes.

This view shows the nearly complete carriage in the station at Dolfor Junction. It awaits glazing and detailing, but is pretty much complete. This is a truly beautiful model from Perfect World.

By comparison, this is carriage No. 2 which is the same model from Perfect World, but assembled by the makers and acquired second-hand in March 2005 from the original owner of Tabitha.
