The Aberllefenni slate quarry was one of the primary quarries that sent goods down the Corris Railway. It was also one of the last working slate quarries in Wales, finally closing at the end of 2003. One of its many interesting features was the unusual waggons used to transport large slabs of slate down to the trans-shipment wharves in Machynlleth. Only one waggon has survived into preservation, and it is sadly shorn of its trestle. The Corris Railway society has built a replica waggon which you can see here.
Note: the Corris Railway traditionally spelt wagon as "waggon".
