The building
is a carriage shed loosely based on the one found at Twywn Pendre on
the Talyllyn Railway. I am constructing the long shed as a set of
five (nearly) identical modules, each 7 inches long. This will make it
easier to move the shed as necessary, particularly if a carriage
become uncoupled in the shed.
The first photo shows scratch-built parts for
the carriage shed. On the right is one of the A-frames, towards the top
is a side panel drying, and below that are cut wood ready to build more
sections.

Cutting strip wood to size is made much easier using a mitre box that
allows accurate and repeatable square and 45-degree cuts to be made.
This one is from the X-acto range No. 75330;
recommended.

Here's a view of the first two modules of the carriage shed partly
built. The A-frames are
connected by side panels. They look much better once
the roof is on. Each section is 7 inches long, and there will be five
units when the whole shed is completed. In the foreground are a run of
Copper Craft wagons, slate and coal. On the shed road are the Corris
wagon, the flat wagon and the iron-sided wagon.

This last view shows the first three modules in place. The front shed
now has a plasticard roof, which will eventually be covered by
individually cut slates. The wood has been stained to deepen the color.
There are now four modules in place, with the fifth and final one under
construction.

Update, May 2005: I have finally found a solution for roofing the carriage shed, although it turns out the Plasticard under-roof wasn't a good idea. See the slate roof page for more details. Here are the first two carriage shed modules with slate roofs in place:
